I am absolutely flabbergasted still, at what happened yesterday afternoon, while shopping at our local hardware store! I trekked along with hubby, who had to pick up a few things for this roofing job he is doing. I figured I could pick up another pound of lye for my soaping and gloves plus get out of the house for just a bit. Now mind you this is not my first time purchasing lye from this particular hardware store. As I was checking out the clerk gave me a weird look, then headed to the back, and brought out the manager. The manager looked at my items and then asked what I was buying the lye for. I told him I was a soaper and that I make soap with lye, natural oils and butters and that lye was a static that is needed to make soap. He looked at me like I was crazy! *lol* He asked to see my ID, then asked if he could scan it. I said sure and handed him my ID which he then scanned and handed back to me. He rung up my items and said he was sorry for the inconviniece. I was like WTF? I have been buying lye there for 2 years now. It’s not like I am making stuff I am not supposed to be making.  Lye soap isn’t outlawed, is it? *rofl*

With my luck, next time I jet over to CVS or Walgreens, I’ll be questioned if I was to buy diet pills like Phentermine 37.5 because they can give you a buzz, like a caffeine buzz! I do understand where they are coming from though. But seriously, buying a pound or two or even three does not warrant questioning. I could have a clogged drain, too. Lye works on clogged drains! Do they question every Plumber that buys by the case, too? Geesh!
